PROMISING young duo Chay Cooper and Harry Beadle have signed new contracts with Colchester United.

Former Spurs youngster Cooper has penned a deal with the U's to remain at the club for the 2022-23 season.

And defender Beadle has also signed a deal to stay at the U's, for the next campaign.

Cooper made a big impact on his league debut for Colchester on the final day of this season, coming off the bench to score a spectacular goal in their 2-0 win at Hartlepool United.

The 20-year-old is now looking to hit the ground running for the U's, next season.

Cooper said: "It’s my job now to come back pre-season and whether it's for the 23s or the first team, I've got to take my chance when I get it, keep working hard and hopefully, more chances come.

"The gaffer knows what he wants to do and know what players he wants to put out and if he picks me again, I'll be ready to take my chance again.

"I've got to go away and work hard and my mentality will be the same.

"I've got to keep doing that and scoring (against Hartlepool) didn't change that.

"I'll still go away and work the same as I did.

"I'll work hard, come back and keep proving myself because at the end of the day, it's only one game and one goal and my aspiration is to play more and score more.

"It's up to me to go away now, come back and be ready for that."

Beadle (pictured above) has been involved with Colchester's first-team squad this season and has been a regular in their under-23 squad.

The 19-year-old joined the U's on a one-year professional contract last summer, having been with Charlton Athletic's academy.

Beadle made his professional debut for Colchester this season when he featured in their Papa John's Trophy defeat to Gillingham, last September.
