Woodham Walter charity event in memory of artist John Durham

John Durham died last year, aged 87, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

He was well-known for his paintings of people waiting in line at soup kitchens in the 50s and 60s.

John sold his work to collectors, tourists and celebrities in his lifetime including rock star Tommy Steele.

His son Mark Durham is celebrating his dad’s life by hosting a fundraising garden party in Woodham Walter, where John was born and raised.

Mark said: “It was hard watching dad suffer and ultimately lose his battle with prostate cancer.”

He continued: “I want this event to celebrate my father’s life and passion for art, as well as raise much-needed funds for those suffering with the disease he battled for so many years.

“Every penny raised at this event will go towards charities that carry out life-saving prostate cancer research, and if my father’s paintings raise funds to help find a cure for this terrible disease, then it will be a fitting legacy to a much-loved man.”

The garden party will take place at The Warren House from 12pm on Saturday, May 21.
