A conductor is preparing for an emotional final performance as he puts on his last show before retirement in memory of his friend.
Patrick McCarthy, conductor of the Colchester Bach Choir and Colchester Philharmonic groups, will be pe performing his last show before retirement.
The production is in memory of Tony Mortimer, who was head of music at Charles Lucas School in Colchester for many years and accompanied Patrick’s choirs and played for church services in his latter years.
Patrick said: “Tony and I had lots of fun performing together at Burns Night suppers at Le Talbooth.
“I would sing well-known Scottish songs while he played brilliant accompaniments.
“I miss him very much, not only for his musicianship but also for his kindness and wonderful sense of humour.
“It is a privilege to dedicate this concert to such a dear friend.”
Patrick’s 12-year-old granddaughter, Florence, will also be playing a violin solo, and his wife, Mary, will perform a Vivaldi duet.
The concert is at St Botolph’s Church on May 28 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10, or £5 for those in full-time education, and are available from Red Lion Books on the High Street, by calling 01206 546202, or on the door.
