A HEADTEACHER has launched an investigation after allegations a Year 5 pupil has been repeatedly assaulted over a four month period.

Debbie Hinds says her son, Jamie, has had his glasses snapped, hair ripped from his scalp and his head slammed against surfaces at Prettygate Junior School, Colchester.

The mum adds she fears young Jamie, ten, could have died from repeated traumas suffered to his head, adding he has been left needing counselling after having recurrent nightmares.

The school’s headteacher, Mark Millbourne told the Gazette he is aware of the issue and stressed all relevant safeguarding policies and procedures are being followed.

But Mrs Hinds, who is a secondary school teacher, says the treatment of her complaints submitted to the school in Plume Avenue, Lexden, have left her in disbelief.

She said: “My son started arriving home from school very upset in December, saying he was being called names and hit round the head.

“A boy had been knocking him over, breaking his glasses, holding his hair and banging his head against things.

“Just three weeks ago Jamie told me how he had been pushed to the ground and had his glasses stamped on.

“He is still getting acute headaches from all the incidents and a normally very happy, confident child has been left feeling very nervous.

“I’ve had all three of my children attend that school; it was once such a lovely place but it’s not anymore and the whole thing has made me furious.”

Mr Millbourne stated an investigation has been launched into Mrs Hinds’ complaints.

He said: “The school is aware of the issue raised by this parent. We have engaged with this family and will continue to work with this parent to resolve this matter.

“An investigation is being carried out, in line with our policies and procedures.

“All safeguarding policies and procedures as set out by the local authority have been followed, and will be followed at all times.”

A spokeswoman for Essex Police added the force has received two reports of assault harassment with regards to Mrs Hinds’ allegations, reported to have occurred in Colchester between December and April.

She stated anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference 42/99162/22.
