Petrol prices may have levelled off over the past few weeks, but there is still money to be saved by choosing the more affordable petrol stations around Colchester.

Compared to 18 years ago, however, prices are still extortionate. The beginning of 2004 saw a litre of petrol cost 74.59p, and a litre of diesel cost 76.77p.

In May 2022, however, these are the best prices you are going to get for petrol in Colchester.

1st – Asda (Turner Road): 159.7p per litre

Asda is often near the top of the league when it comes to affordable petrol. It is the case once again this week as it is over 1p cheaper than its nearest rival. 60 litres of fuel cost £95.82 here.

2nd – Sainsbury’s (Stanway): 160.9p per litre

Sainsbury’s may have groceries on the pricey side, but its fuel is more affordable than most. £96.54 will be at the bottom of your receipt when you fill up a 60-litre tank here.

3rd – Tesco (Highwoods), Tesco (Hythe), Co-Op (Peartree Road), and BP (London Road): 161.9p per litre

Four petrol stations are all tied for third place here. At one pence more expensive than Sainsbury’s, a full tank at any one of these petrol stations will mean you are paying an extra 60p at the till. A full tank here is £97.14.

7th – Texaco (Mersea Road), Texaco (Shrub End Road), and Esso (Bergholt Road): 162.9p per litre

Closely behind Tesco’s prices are these petrol stations scattered across Colchester. They are perhaps the more traditionally well-known petrol suppliers, but they are not necessarily cheap. A 60-litre tank here costs £97.74.

10th – BP (Ipswich Road): 166.9p per litre

Along one of Colchester’s busiest roads is one of its priciest petrol stations. A full 60-litre tank here costs £100.14.
