BUDDING explorers have been handed a cash boost in their bid to travel to Asia for a world-wide event following generous donation.

Freemasons from the Colchester and Wivenhoe are helping make Wivenhoe Scouts’ dreams come true after making a donation of £2,000.

Lodges which donated include Ostrea Lodge, Colne Lodge, Wyven Mark Lodge, Angel Lodge, Comrades Lodge and United Lodge.

The funds will prove vital in their efforts to go to South Korea in 2023 for the World Scout Jamboree.

The 12-day event will be attended by more than 40,000 scouts from across the globe.

Scout Leader Karen Pigram was joined by scouts Tillman Grewe and Charlie Luxford-Vaughan at the ceremony in Wivenhoe.

Colne Lodge Secretary Bob Needham and Ostrea Lodge Secretary Paul Fell said: “Combined with five units from Wivenhoe and four units from St Giles we managed to raise £2,000 towards their trip to South Korea

Tillman added: “The money means a lot and it will help us pay for some of the events we’re doing in Korea and the actual way to get there.

“It also means a lot because it will pay for some of the poorer countries who don’t have the money themselves to go.”
