AN OPERA festival is bringing Mozart to England’s tallest Tudor Gatehouse this summer.

The Essex Summer Opera Festival is coming to Layer Marney Tower for a three-day event to present a show sung in English at the historic palace.

The performance of Mozart’s Così fan tutte will take place in the 16th century building of Layer Marney’s Quintin’s Barn.

Award-winning director Poppy Burton-Morgan will present the comedy about young lovers in romantic knots.

The performance will be sung by a cast of six with music by a miniature orchestra of seven.

The festival is presented by a new charity, Wild Arts, who hopes to bring world-class music and cultural experiences to the natural environment and communities in Essex.

Former Colchester resident and founder of the festival, Orlando Jopling, said: “It’s about time Essex was recognised as the vibrant and appealing region it is.

“The rural Essex landscape is easily as stunning as neighbouring counties, with thriving communities, and we want to celebrate that.

“Top quality cultural experiences belong here as much as in London and the other home counties.”

The festival is on from Thursday, July 7 until Sunday, July 10. Tickets range from £35.
