Police have launched an investigation after a man suffered significant facial injuries in an unprovoked assault.

The attack happened in Colchester High Street.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was attacked at 1am on Monday.

The attacker has been described as white, in his early 40s, around 6ft 1ins tall and of medium build.

He has short fair-to-ginger hair and at the time of the assault was wearing a short-sleeved white, green, and pink floral-patterned shirt and jeans.

Police have now issued an appeal for anyone who saw anything or has any CCTV or mobile phone footage to contact them.
