DIGNITARIES came together to bid farewell to Colchester mayor Robert Davidson and to help raise thousands for his charity.

Prominent figures met at Colchester’s Town Hall building for the fundraiser, which was held in aid of the Mayor’s Charities Fund.

Distinguished guests joined Mr Davidson and his wife Liz for a night of dinner, dancing and fundraising.

The mayor’s farewell bash was the first major fundraising event for the Mayor’s Charities Fund, which took place during the mayor’s time in office due to the restrictions caused by the Covid pandemic. Mr Davidson’s tenure as mayor was extended due to the pandemic.

Hosted in the Moot Hall, the mayor’s farewell bash featured a Best of British theme, including a special appearance from Sir Winston Churchill lookalike Neil Heward.

Sponsors of the event included Lion Walk shopping centre, The George Hotel, Colchester, and KAT Marketing.

The bash also marked one of the mayor’s final engagements before his term of office ends later this month.

Guests were treated to a four-course meal while entertainment included live music from Better Than Your Boyfriend and an auction with lots such as the chance to take a spin in the mayor’s E-Type Jaguar.

Close to £5,000 was raised on the night for the Mayor’s Charities Fund, which will share proceeds between East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, Rural Community Council of Essex, SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, St Helena Hospice and the Samaritans.

Commenting on the event, Mr Davidson, said: “It was wonderful to finally be able to host The Mayor’s Farewell Bash and raise money for these amazing charities.

“I want to say a sincere thank you to all of those who supported the event.

“The money raised for the Mayor’s Charities Fund will help make a big difference to the people of Colchester.”
