LAST weekend the Colchester to Ukraine: Humanitarian & Emergency Aid Campaign is was officially launched at Colchester Town Hall.

The initiative is being spearheaded by councillor Martin Leatherdale, mayor Robert Davidson, and the Dulai family, owners of Surya Food Group and The George Hotel.

It is also being supported by Colchester Community Facebook Group, the Anti Loo Roll Brigade, Community 360, and Colchester Foodbank.

The scheme is also being bolstered by the Colchester Rotary Club, Colchester Council and Colchester Business Improvement District – Our Colchester.

The aim is to deliver much-needed humanitarian support directly from the community of Colchester to refugees in need in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Gazette:

Since launching the scheme more than £13,000 has been raised and endless items have been donated to the Lion Walk Shopping Centre's drop-off hub.

In support of the campaign we have listed a few ways in which you can help those helping refugees fleeing Ukraine.

1. Donate via this link: gofundme.com/colchester-to-ukraine

2. Attend Lion Walk's fundraising event at 3pm next Tuesday and donate money or aid. During the event a dazzling display of the Replica Crown Jewels on Culver Walk will be launched.

3. Those attending the Colchester Town Centre Business Awards 2022, at 6pm on May 4, will be able to support the cause by taking part in a fundraiser auction and raffle with thousands of pounds worth prizes up for grabs.

4. Find a collection bucket after they are distributed around Colchester on May 6 and drop in some pennies or pounds... or notes.

5. Visit the Lion Walk Shopping Centre's Ukraine drop-off site next to Primark and hand over some essential items.

Gazette:

Martin Leatherdale, Lion Walk centre manager, said: "Thanks to all involved, we are incredibly enamoured by the generosity and support so far received. Thank you Colchester."
