FIELDS were filled with Westies at a popular group event for the dog lovers.

Colchester Westie Walkers joined together for the fifth time to walk their pups.

There were 66 West Highland White Terriers in attendance on the sunny day at High Woods Country Park in Colchester.

The Westie lovers came from all over Essex, as well as Norwich, Canterbury, Hertfordshire, Kent and London for the group walkies.

Organisers held raffles and gave out certificates and goodie bags filled with treats to dog owners on the day.

More than £665 was raised on the day which will be donated to Westie Rescue UK and the Westie Advice Group UK.

The Colchester Westie Walkers Facebook group was created in 2018 and has nearly 400 members.

Members from the group have said it was a brilliant, well-organised day and new members were made to feel welcome on the day.

Other dog owners have commented that their dogs were fast asleep all evening after the exciting day of socialising.

Amanda-Jayne Doyland, who organised the meet-up, said: “Suddenly we could see Westies emerging from their owners’ cars and a sigh of relief was made by all of us.

“We had so many new members who had never been to a walk before and people who weren’t even members (hopefully they are now) who had seen it on other sights.

“It was again a lovely sight to see all the different shapes, sizes and looks, and that was just the owners, but was even better to see the Westies.”

For the next Westie walk they are hoping to have at least 100 Westies in the park.

More information on their next Westie walk can be found on the Colchester Westie Walkers Facebook page.
