ELECTION hopefuls will go toe-to-toe at an arts and entertainment complex as part of a debate being held days before residents head to the polls.
Candidates running in the upcoming Colchester Council election will take part in an hustings event at the Mercury Theatre next Tuesday.
During the free-to-attend evening those living in the borough will be invited to ask questions about issues affecting the community the most.
Chaired by Paul Whitely, Professor of Government at the University of Essex, the event will also encourage party leaders to delve into their manifestos.

It will mark the last time constituents will be able to hear directly from those running in the election before they cast their votes next Thursday.
Steve Mannix, executive director of the Mercury Theatre, said: “I’m pleased to offer the opportunity to everyone in Colchester to come and ask their questions to our local political leaders on issues that concern them.
“Being able to host such an event for the area is a brilliant privilege and we’re glad to offer another way for the community to engage with Mercury Theatre.”
Free tickets for the event, available on a first come first served basis, can be booked now by visiting mercurytheatre.co.uk.
