SCAMMERS are attempting to dupe residents into giving away their bank details through an elaborate operation.
Colchester Council has warned residents to remain vigilant after it was made aware of scammers calling people asking for bank details to pay a £150 council tax rebate.
A spokesman said: “We will not ask for any bank details by phone or text message.

“Please stay alert and do not give your bank details to scammers.
“If you are eligible and you pay by direct debit, you will automatically receive the payment.”
