A PARENT said he was left fearing for his children’s safety at a fun fair.

Dad Andrew O’Brien, 29, took his six and eight-year-old children to the fair at Abbeyfields in Colchester on Saturday.

But he claimed there was a lack of health and safety measures in place and concerns were raised about rides which broke down and bouncy castles which started deflating whilst children were still on them.

He said: “My daughter was on a bouncy castle which started deflating.

“If the bouncy castle fully deflates whilst kids are still on it then something really bad could happen – it’s worrying for everyone’s kids and someone is going to get hurt.”

After several people reported concerns about the fun fair to councillor Dave Harris, he confirmed he had contacted chief executive of Colchester Council, Pam Donnelly, to voice his concerns about possible health and safety risks.

The organisers of the fun fair, Sue and John Carey, declined to comment when approached by the Gazette.

Mr and Mrs Carey are due to hold another fun fair at Castle Park this Saturday.
