A MAN who smashed a car and house’s windows while young children watched on has been sent to prison.
Patrick Jackson, of Berechurch Road, Colchester, went on a frenzy of criminal damage on April 17 when he damaged a Honda Jazz’s windshield and front driver’s window.
The incident continued when the 29-year-old then damaged two of a Colchester property’s windows, all belonging to a woman.
Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard how when a police officer was dealing with his arrest, Jackson racially abused him.
He would then go on to damage a police van and repeatedly spat inside it during his streak of offences.
Magistrates deemed the offence of high severity due to it being committed in a domestic setting, while “considerable damage” was caused to both the property and the victim’s vehicle.
Furthermore, the crimes occurred in the presence of young children.
Jackson admitted two counts of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 and one count of racially aggravated provocation of violence by words.
He was sent to prison for six weeks and must pay £450 in compensation for his crimes.
Jackson was also made the subject of a restraining order lasting until April 2023.
