POLICE say they have discovered a body while conducting a search for a missing man.

Officers made the discovery yesterday (April 13) at 11am, near the River Stour off Ballingdon Street in Sudbury.

It comes as Suffolk Police were conducting a search to find Samuel Gillett - a Sudbury man who went missing on Sunday, March 27.

Formal identification procedures are yet to take place but police say the deceased is believed to be Samuel Gillett.

A police cordon and crime scene has been established and is in place while officers carry out their investigation.

Officers also say the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police added: "Extensive searches had been taking place since he was reported missing.

"His next of kin have been informed of the discovery.

"A police scene is currently in place as officers carry out enquiries.

"The death is being treated as unexplained at this time, but police do not currently believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
