A YOUNG fundraiser with a big heart has managed to drum up more than £1,000 in donations after performing front flips on his trampoline non-stop for a hour.

Ed Urwin, who is ten years old and attends Hamilton Primary School in Colchester, felt he had to do something to help war-stricken Ukrainians after he saw pictures of people who had been left with nothing after the Russian invasion.

Although he had originally aimed to raise £25 for the Disasters Emergency Committee, Ed’s novel idea of front flipping saw the donations soar – and he has now raised £1,115, with donations still coming in.

Ed not only exceeded his expectations with the amount of money raised – he managed to surpass the number of front flips he aimed for too.

Somersaulting 241 times in the space of an hour, Ed averaged four flips every minute, with his younger sister Ellie and pet cockapoo Noodle there for support.

He said: “I feel really proud of myself – I was aiming for 200 flips so to beat that by so much feels really good.

“I started to feel tired with about ten minutes to go but I was determined to keep going for the hour because it’s such a good cause.

“I never thought I would even raise £100 so to raise over £1,000 is unbelievable. I just hope it helps.”

Dad Mark was highly impressed with Ed’s efforts and said the family would do something special to say well done before the end of the school holidays.

He said: “The determination Ed showed was incredible. The minute the rain stopped we thought ‘right, let’s go for it’, and he just did not stop.

“I honestly thought at one point he would need a break for five or ten minutes, but he was bouncing non-stop – he was very achy the next morning.

“We would like to reward him, so we’re going to go out for a family meal and give him the choice of where he wants to go.

“His little sister, Ellie, is incredibly proud of him – she gave him a cuddle on the trampoline at the end.”
