COLCHESTER foodies can look forward to a summer of entertainment with a feast of entertainment in Castle Park.

From the Medieval Festival and Oyster Fayre taking place on the 4th - 5th of June, to the revered Food and Drink fest on the 25th – 26th, the first ever Colchester Roman Festival on the 30th – 31st of July. There is also the Colchester Maritime Festival at King Edwards Quay on the 21st of August and the Eastern Britain Wine, Beer and Spirits Festival taking place at Charter Hall on the 26th of November. With five weekend events taking place over the Summer, there is something for everyone to get excited about.

Don Quinn, the events organiser said: “We are very excited, especially about the new Roman Festival. In Colchester, you cant put a stick in the ground without finding Roman remains – we wanted a festival to reflect that, being both fun and educational.

“The Food and Drink fest is just fabulous. This year we have more stalls than ever before, more than 120 stalls will be exhibiting. We know a lot of people love it and look forward to it – last year it was the largest food and drink festival in the region.

“There is a lot more going on at the Medieval Fayre this year. Not only more stalls, but we are showing living history. We have king Henry the 8th and Elizabeth the 1st visiting over the weekend, with maids and knights to accompany. They will be enjoying a banquet in front of everyone. We have a festival ale, being specially brewed by the Colchester Brewery, as well as a giant wild boar hog roast and a medieval stew for our vegan friends – with gallons of mead to accompany, of course.”
