A NOTORIOUS underpass has become a cause of concern once again after a van got stuck underneath it.

The van has ploughed into the railway bridge at Manningtree railway station today just before noon.

Following the accident, some train services in the Manningtree area were affected.

A spokesman for Greater Anglia said: “Services were delayed for up to 20 minutes, and they were able to run as normal from 1.15pm.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

Drivers reported being stuck in traffic for more than a hour.

One frustrated resident commented: “The amount of times this happens makes you wonder if the drivers that can’t judge the height should be driving at all if their eyesight is that bad.”

Last year, Network Rail placed the bridge on its top ten list for the most commonly struck bridges, with ten strikes recorded between 2020 and 2021.

Back in January, the A137 was partially blocked near the Manningtree railway line and high topped vehicles had to find alternative routes as a lorry smashed a barrier.
