MEMBERS of Colchester Civic Society collected 26 bags of litter during their latest clean up operation.

The operation was conducted as part of the nationwide Great British Spring Clean campaign promoted by Keep Britain Tidy.

The team collected the rubbish from town and surrounding areas, covering the lower end of Ipswich Road, East Street, Brook Street and Sawmill Housing Estate, as well as Vineyard Street and the former bus station.

The heap of sacks, accompanied by some larger fly-tipped items, were taken to the former bus station off of Queen Street, later collected by the borough council.

Society chairwoman Jo Edwards said: “We also have individual members who undertake regular collections in a specific areas which they have adopted.

“Colchester Civic Society members take pride in Colchester, and the litter picking is an obvious sign of what members get engaged in.

“Anyone can join in for a couple of hours. No special skills needed, just a bit of enthusiasm and a wish to make a difference in Colchester, to help make it a town worth living in.”
