A TEENAGER from Harwich has appeared in court after being found with a kitchen knife in public.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before North Essex Youth Court in Chelmsford charged with possessing a knife.

The court heard he was found with the knife in Villa Road, Stanway, in February last year.

He was handed a 12-month conditional discharge, which means he will face no further punishment if he does not commit another offence within that period.

He must also pay a £22 surcharge to fund victim services.
