Courts across Essex deal with dozens of drivers who speed each week.

Speeding incurs penalty points and in most cases a hefty fine too.

Here are cases where Colchester drivers were caught speeding and appeared in court last week.

Robert Brown, 44, of Meander Mews, Colchester, was caught travelling at 84mph in a 70mph zone of the A12 at Kelvedon on July 27 last year.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on April 1 the case was proved via the single justice procedure.

Brown was handed three penalty points and fined £220.

He was also ordered to pay a £34 victim services charge and £90 costs.

David Clark, 60, of Maldon Road, Colchester, was caught breaking the 30mph on the A137 in Brantham on August 6 last year.

The speed recorded was 36mph.

Ipswich Court House heard Clark had been issued with a combined speed awareness course offer and conditional offer of a fixed penalty.

Magistrates were told course has not been completed, and neither the penalty payment, nor driving licence have been received within the time constraints.

Clark admitted the offence and was handed three penalty points and a £116 fine.

He must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £90 costs.

Ben Murphy, 31, of Scarletts Road, Colchester, was caught speeding on a 30mph stretch of the A12 in Wrentham on October 10 last year.

Ipswich Court House heard he had been travelling at 52mph.

Murphy admitted the offence and was handed six penalty points and fined £279.

He must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £90 costs.

Kieran Raphael, 30, of Chinook Road, Colchester, was caught breaking the 30mph limit in Suffolk on August 13 last year.

The speed recorded was 37mph.

The case was proved via the single justice procedure at Ipswich Court House.

Raphael was handed three penalty points and fined £220.

He must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £90 costs.

Ricky Paterson, 38, of Church Lane, Stanway, was caught travelling at 82mph on the A12 at Kelvedon on July 24 last year.

At Basildon Magistrates’ Court the case was proved via the single justice procedure.

Paterson was handed three penalty points and fined £220.

He must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £90 costs.

Colin Hodge, 63, of Forge Street, Dedham, was caught travelling at 80mph on the A12 at Kelvedon on July 24 last year.

Hodge admitted the offence and at Basildon Magistrates’ Court he was handed three penalty points and fined £40.

He must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £20 costs.

Michael Watson, 55, of St Monance Way, Colchester, was caught travelling at 59mph in a 50mph zone at the Dartford Crossing on July 27 last year.

The case was proved via the single justice system at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

Watson was handed three penalty points and fined £60.

He must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £20 costs.
