WAYNE Brown has given himself a 'great opportunity' of keeping the Colchester United head coach role on a permanent basis.

And the U's interim boss has been praised for his 'incomparable' record since taking temporary charge at the JobServe Community Stadium.

That's the view of EFL pundit Sam Parkin, who has praised Brown for the impact he has made since his appointment alongside Joe Dunne and Dave Huzzey, in January.

Brown has just led Colchester to back-to-back wins, following the 2-1 triumph at Harrogate Town, last weekend.

Goals from Freddie Sears and Noah Chilvers secured victory for the U's at the EnviroVent Stadium, following Jack Muldoon's early opener for the hosts.

The result lifted Colchester 11 points clear of the League Two relegation zone, with six games remaining.

Brown has led the U's to four wins from their last six games and in the 16 matches he has presided over so far, has helped them claim 23 points from a possible 48.

Former Luton Town and Ipswich Town striker Parkin, speaking during his appearance on EFL on Quest, feels the U's 2005-06 promotion winner now has a great chance of taking the role on a full-time basis.

Parkin said: "Wayne Brown in interim charge, in comparison to Oldham, Barrow, Scunthorpe, the teams that are down there, the points return that Brown has had since he's gone in there, you can't compare it.

"He's given himself a great opportunity of keeping the gig."

Parkin also had praise for Colchester midfielder Noah Chilvers (pictured above), who has been in fine form of late.

The 21-year-old struck what proved to be the U's winner at Harrogate and also provided the assist for Sears' equaliser.

Chilvers, who was named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Week following his impressive performance at Harrogate, has scored four times in his last nine games.

Parkin added: "Chilvers has had a fantastic end to the season."

Colchester are back in action on Saturday when they host relegation-threatened Stevenage at the JobServe Community Stadium, kick-off 3pm.
