SIR Keir Starmer paid a visit to Colchester today, visiting three businesses and speaking to various residents and supporters.

The Labour leader came to the town centre to speak to residents and businesses regarding the ongoing cost of living crisis, and the upcoming local elections in May.

During his visit this morning, he dropped into two High Street businesses, as well as the popular town theatre.

Sir Keir started his walk at the Three Wise Monkeys bar, at the bottom of the High Street.

It was here that he was greeted by both Colchester Labour Group’s leader and secretary, Adam Fox, and Kayleigh Rippingale.

During his brief time at the Three Wise Monkeys, Sir Keir spoke to both the operations manager Charlie Rogers and business owner Paul Tonkinson.

The labour leader spoke to the pair about the ongoing cost of living crisis, and how they are coping as a business, particularly after the time during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following on from this, he began his walk up the High Street, where passers-by began to recognise him, stopping to take pictures and discuss their concerns.

The Labour leader continued his walk into the Red Lion Book store, before heading next to the Mercury Theatre.

It was here that a group of passionate Labour supporters greeted Sir Keir.

The crowds welcomed him with cheers and applause, before he gave a brief speech and spoke to some individually.

Executive director at the Mercury Theatre Steve Mannix and development director Abbi Roberts then brought the opposition leader into the theatre, giving him a grand tour around their facilities.

He was shown the stages, set design, construction areas, halls, and other rooms backstage.

He was very impressed with the whole theatre, particularly where the sets are created, where he spoke to head of constructions Philip Attwater.

To finish his visit, Sir Keir spoke to some more of his supporters and those that awaited his re-emergence from his theatre tour.

He took some final photos, before finally leaving the town he hopes to gain a council majority in during the upcoming local elections in May.
