A five-star comedy set will be performed by a well-known American comedian in Colchester next week.

Reginald D. Hunter, who has appeared on Have I Got News for You, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and Live at the Apollo, will be adding the Mercury Theatre to his hit list as he takes to the stage on Friday, April 8.

The comic’s appearance at the Mercury is part of a UK and Ireland tour, with Hunter having performed at 17 different venues since the beginning of February.

There will be a performance at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds next Thursday before Hunter arrives in Colchester the following day – he will then be back in Essex later this month when he performs at the Palace Theatre, in Southend.

Named Bombe Shuffleur, Hunter described the meaning behind the routine’s title by saying: “I’m sick and tired of issues being difficult to talk about; it doesn’t matter what you feel about Brexit but it shouldn’t be this hard to talk about it.

When he announced his tour, he said: “I am eager to return to touring simply because it took 35 weeks of lockdown to remember who I am.

“Before the fame, before the money, before the lawyers, before the star-chasers, before three national lockdowns – back to basics.
