HEALTH bosses have urged parents of vulnerable children to get their youngsters vaccinated against Covid-19.

Parents and guardians of five to 11-year-old children who are at higher risk of severe Covid are being implored to ignore mistruths about the vaccine and young people.

A number of clinics across Suffolk and north east Essex are now administering special children’s doses of Pfizer which protects them against the virus.

Health chiefs say they understand some parents and carers have reservations about taking their children for the jab, but have urged them to seek reassurance.

Anybody who has questions about the children’s Pfizer dose is encouraged to contact the Suffolk and North East Essex vaccination helpline on 0344 257 3961.

The helpline is staffed by healthcare professionals who will be able to talk parents through any concerns or fears they may have and help book an appointment.

Elizabeth Moloney, who leads the vaccination programme, said: “We totally understand some parents might have concerns about their children having the vaccination, precisely because they have been deemed at risk.

“The children’s Pfizer vaccination is completely safe and has been through the most rigorous safety tests prior to being licensed by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.”
