MUSICIANS from an award-winning Welsh group say they will be “stepping into history” when they play at a town centre venue later this year.

Calan, who are preparing to embark on an extensive UK tour, are due to perform what will be a thunderous show at Colchester Art Centre on May 5.

Comprised of Sam Humphreys, Patrick Rimes, Bethan Rhiannon, and Shelley Musker Turner, the quartet is described as “Brittan’s most thrilling indie-trad band”.

Throughout the gig, they will be showcasing tracks from their new album Kistvaen, which consists of intricate, brilliant musicianship and foot-stamping melodies.

Patrick, the power-folk band’s extremely talented violin virtuoso, said: “Stepping into the Arts Centre is stepping into history.

“Not just the march of time, but the amazing acts that have been promoted here, everyone from Coldplay to Eddie Izzard and Ronnie Scott.

“We’re proud and privileged to add Calan’s name to the list. It’s going to be a great night.”

Calan’s gig at Colchester Arts Centre will start at 8pm with doors opening 30 minutes before the band takes to the stage.

Tickets cost £16.50 and can be purchased by visiting colchesterartscentre.com or by calling the venue box office on 01206 500900.
