A START-UP company will be tackling climate change with every new sign-up they receive across Essex and Suffolk.

RentMy is an innovative new platform created by entrepreneur Tom West which allows users to let anything they own.

Tom is also well-known in the hospitality industry as the owner of The Lord Nelson pub in Ipswich, the award-winning Red Lion pub in Manningtree and The Marlborough Head in Dedham.

Alarmed at the rate the world is losing its trees and concerned about the way storms Dudley, Franklin and Eunice only added to the problem, Tom has decided to plant a tree each time someone signs up to RentMy.com.

The platform is expected to launch across the whole of the UK over the next six months making it possible for people to rent anything, from anyone, and anywhere.

To make their green mission even more successful, RentMy have partnered with Treepoints, a carbon reduction platform.

Tom said: “Trees are vital to the health of the planet, whether they’re lining our roads or filling our parks and gardens, they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, replenish the soil, provide homes for wildlife and bring countless other benefits to the environment.

“At RentMy we really care about the plight of the planet and want to do as much as possible to help in the fight against climate change.

“Treepoints chooses projects which are verified to the highest standard and have a positive impact on global sustainable development as well as reducing CO2 emissions.”

As well as taking CO2 out of the atmosphere the tree planting schemes provide important socio-economic benefits for communities.

This includes creating steady employment with a fair wage, which allows people to afford to buy medicine, to build houses, to send their children to school in the areas in which the trees are planted such as Haiti, Kenya, Mozambique, Nicaragua and many other countries around the world.

Tom added: “We’re excited to work with Treepoints to help fight climate change and simplify doing good for our customers.

"To beat climate change, we’re all going to have to work together, and this could be a great first step for anyone wanting to take action.”
