POLICE have confirmed the closure of the A134 on Thursday evening came after a man fell from height.

The road remained closed for over two hours as emergency services were called at 4.15pm and quickly arrived at the scene.

An air ambulance was also deployed in response to the incident.

The man, who is in his 20s, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

A spokesman for Essex and Herts Air Ambulance confirmed a rapid response vehicle was dispatched from Earl’s Colne Airfield following the emergency.

There was major congestion throughout Colchester yesterday evening, with bus services diverted and pedestrians allowed to use the subways into North Station.

A spokesman for Essex Police said the A134 was subsequently re-opened at 6.30pm after the man had been airlifted from the scene.

The spokesman said: “We were called at around 4.15pm on Thursday 10 March following concerns for the welfare of a man in Colchester.”

“We attended the A134 near North Station Hill train station and located a man who had fallen from height.

“The roads were closed while we dealt and reopened at 6.30pm.

“The man, 20s, remains in hospital.”

A spokesman for East of England Ambulance described the services which attended the scene.

He said: “An ambulance, a senior paramedic in a support vehicle, a response vehicle from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and Magpas Air Ambulance were dispatched and arrived promptly on scene.

“The patient was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment.”
