COLCHESTER United has finally topped the table... but for the most expensive beer in the league according to the latest research.

Liberty Games has curated a report looking at how much the average away game costs football fans dedicated to following their team on the road.

The games room retailer has taken into consideration the price of buying a ticket, a pint, a pie and a matchday programme at each League 2 ground.

The data is based on the average prices for each and interest has also been calculated at 4.9 per cent, which is correct as of this month.

Colchester United was found to be the seventh most affordable away day, costing supporters an average of £28 a trip, including £21 for a ticket and £3.25 for a pie.

At a cost of £4, however, the JobServe Community Stadium’s pints of beer are considered to be the most expensive in the league compared to the £3.50 average.

According to the findings, the overall cost of a trip to the terraces of Colchester United could set fans back £45.66 by 2032 if inflation continues at its current rate.

A Colchester United spokesman said: “We strive to be competitive and affordable in our matchday offering here at the JobServe Community Stadium, especially when supporters are feeling the pinch in almost every other aspect of their cost of living.

"Continuing to include the programme in the cost of a match ticket has been widely applauded by home and away fans, and we are constantly looking at other ways that we can be even more affordable for supporters, including the prices that we charge for our food and drink offerings.

"Us being named as the seventh most affordable away day shows we are on the right track.”
