A TIMETABLE of events is being drawn up to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

Halstead Town Council is preparing the town for a long weekend of celebrations.

Running from June 2 to June 5, residents will be able to enjoy numerous events to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

It will be the first time in British history a monarch has celebrated the landmark achievement.

It comes after the council pledged to revive events in the town following the cancellations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In its annual budget, the council revealed funding for more events and also applied for a licence to hold live music in the Halstead Public Gardens.

Now a full schedule of events has been released by the council.

First, on June 2 at 12pm, will be the unveiling a new bench in a churchyard, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative clock at the Halstead Library at 12.30pm and a performance by the Caribbean Regals Steelband Quartet from 2pm to 5pm.

There will also be a beacon lighting on the Halstead Fire Station town at 9.45pm.

On June 3, is the children’s outdoor cinema at 10am and 2pm.

On June 4, there will be selection of stalls in Weavers Court.

The event, which run from 10am to 2pm, will include a face painter, sweet stall, representatives from Halstead in Bloom and Halstead 21st century as well as the Royal British Legion.

Finally, on June 5, the Halstead Community Choir will perform from 10am to 12pm followed by a performance by The Beavers from 2pm to 5pm.

A spokesman for Halstead Town Council said: “Halstead Town Council, like many organisations around the country, is planning a number of events for the community to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

“There is something happening every day of the four-day weekend, aimed at providing entertainment for different sections of the community.

“There will be ice cream and food available around all the events in the park.”
