A BEAUTY salon has opened its doors to donations which will be sent to Ukraine.

Marie Yexley, owner of Beauty at the Bay, in Bergholt Road, Colchester, issued a plea on social media for vital items and the donations poured in.

Items dropped off included medical supplies, nappies, blankets, warm clothing and bedding – enough to fill an entire lorry within 24 hours.

Marie explained she had hoped to drive the donations herself to a drop-off point in London, however the response was so overwhelming a lorry had to come and collect it all.

Marie said: “At first I thought I’d load up my car and drive down, however, after just a couple of hours it was clear I’d need more than my car.

“ A couple of phone calls later and suddenly, and incredibly, the lorry was coming to us to collect.

“As we were sorting through the donations we came across two gorgeous, handwritten notes by Freddie aged five saying ‘Take care’ and ‘Thinking of you’.

“This perfectly sums up how we are all feeling right now.”

Marie is no longer collecting donations.
