A DESPERATE daughter says she is watching her brain damaged mum edge closer to death after promises for an operation to remove a large mass have gone unanswered.

Deborah Bond, 57, of Eight Ash Green, was left unable to walk or talk after doctors failed to diagnose a bleed on her brain when she was 42.

And now her daughter, Chelsea, 33, is fighting on Deborah’s behalf to get her an urgent operation amid fears an ever-expanding mass on her stomach could crush her internal organs.

She claims Deborah was put on an end-of-life care programme by Colchester Hospital last year after doctors found what they believed to be an inoperable cancer inside her stomach.

However, Southend Hospital provided a lifeline when it agreed to treat the 57-year-old, but, following a meeting in January, Chelsea says she has heard nothing since.

It was suggested her mum would have a permanent drain inserted into her body but concerns were raised about whether the risks outweighed the potentially lifesaving benefits.

Since the meeting six weeks ago, Chelsea claims she hasn’t heard anything from the hospital.

She said: “I’m sitting around doing nothing, watching my mum slowly fading away.

“She can’t talk but she’s crying and I can see she is begging for help, but I’ve been made to feel like I’m pestering the hospital, like I’m an idiot.

“I’ve tolerated so much but when you see what I’ve seen you get desperate. This is my mum, she’s been completely and utterly treated worse than what an animal would be.

“All she does every day is signal to us she wants help urgently, she’s asking me at least every half an hour.

“It just feels like the hospitals are waiting for nature to take its course.”

A spokesman for the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Southend Hospital, previously told the Gazette they had asked Chelsea to contact them.

He said: “We’ve kept the family up to date throughout. We’d encourage Mrs Bond to get back in touch with us, so that we can discuss any concerns they may have.”
