RENOVATIONS at one of Colchester’s largest car parks have been completed after several weeks of work.

St Mary’s car park on Balkerne Hill, which was built in the late 1970s, has been upgraded to accommodate larger vehicles and a greater number of blue badge holders.

The renovations are intended to make the car park easier to use and more accessible for residents and visitors.

Entrance and exit lanes have been widened, and walls and pillars have been repainted.

The works follow the installation of LED lighting in the car park in 2020.

Simon Crow, who is the portfolio holder for environment and sustainability at Colchester Council, said parking spaces may be widened at further car parks.

He said: “It’s great to see how the new bays have refreshed the look of the car park, and widening them will make it so much easier for residents and visitors to park with larger cars.

“We are looking at funding options to extend the bay widening throughout St Mary’s and other council car parks.

“It’s important that our car park facilities provide a positive parking experience for all our customers.”
