A MAN has narrowly escaped going to prison after assaulting a woman in Colchester.
Colin Allen, of South Street, Colchester carried out the assault on March 11 last year when he beat a woman.
The 30-year-old was handed a ten week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months after he admitted assault by beating at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.
As a result of the offence which magistrates described as “so serious”, Allen was handed a two year restraining order and fined £378.
He must also participate in 30 days of a building better relationships programme and must undertake ten days of rehabilitation.
