A MAN has been charged with three counts of sexual assault after two incidents in Colchester.

Essex Police arrested Jolomi Nanna after two incidents in which women were targeted.

The first incident took place in Middlewick Close at about noon on February 10 while the second occurred near the Corporal Budd VC Gym, in Berechurch Road, on February 19.

Nanna, 21, of Lethe Grove, Colchester, was arrested in connection with the two incidents and has now been charged with a number of offences which relate to seven women in total.

These include four counts of stalking, three counts of sexual assault, one count of outraging public decency and one count of common assault.

He has also been charged with a single count of harassment without violence and a count of exposure.

Essex Police says the incidents took place between February 10 and Saturday.

A police spokesman said: “A man arrested in connection with two incidents in Colchester, which we believe are linked, has been charged with several offences.

“The incidents took place in Middlewick Close at around midday on February 10 and on February 19 in an area near to the Corporal Budd VC Gym.

“Twenty-one-year-old Jolomi Nanna, of Lethe Grove, Colchester, was arrested in connection with the incidents.

“The offences relate to incidents involving seven women between February 10 and February 26.”

Berechurch councillor Dave Harris says he believes “brilliant” residents are responsible for helping the police after at least eight people came forward to give statements to officers.

He said: “I am shocked it happened in the first place and have been apprehensive about the safety of my family and friends who live in this area.

“The public have reported everything and given statements, anything which can help the police and I encourage them to keep on coming forward.

“If anyone is affected or concerned, they should contact myself, their local council or any of the churches in the area.

We are all here to help.”

Nanna was due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
