A MAN has been found guilty of barging his way into a woman’s flat before forcing himself on her.

Jurors found Gatis Heinrihsons, 38, guilty of a single count of sexual assault on Friday morning following a week long trial at Ipswich Crown Court.

The prosecution had told the court Heinrihsons forced his way into a woman’s home in Colchester, before pushing her onto a sofa and sexually assaulting her.

The trial heard he followed her up a set of stairs to the doorway of her flat.

The woman was “screaming blue murder” during the terrifying incident as she repeatedly pleaded with her attacker to get off her, Claire Matthews, prosecuting, said.

She added the shouting was so loud “it was heard by neighbouring properties.”

The court heard the complainant had been out for the evening with a friend, returning to her home late on August 28 last year.

She told the police the assault was “extremely aggressive”.

The jury, of eight men and four women, took just one hour and 35 minutes to find Heinrihsons, of Woodside Close, Colchester, guilty.

He will now be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on April 1.
