A WOMAN had to be transferred to hospital for treatment after falling at a level crossing.

Emergency services rushed to Parkeston Quay this morning to assist a resident who had suffered a medical episode and slipped onto the tracks.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police has confirmed they have attended the scene at around 6am.

Following the accident, some residents have also experienced disruption to their railway services.

While emergency services were assisting the woman, trains between Wrabness and Harwich Town were put on halt.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to Parkeston Quay just before 6.15am today following reports that an adult woman was unwell.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported the patient to Colchester General Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

A Greater Anglia spokesperson added: “We’re sorry for the disruption to services in the Harwich area this morning, this was due to the emergency services being called to an incident close to the railway.

“Trains were unable to run between Wrabness and Harwich Town while Network Rail and the emergency services attended the scene.

“It happened at around 6am and the line reopened just after 8.30am.
