Colchester Council considers hundreds of planning applications every year.

They range from chopping down trees to building extensions, new houses and changes to shops and businesses.

But not every application gets approved, however.

Here, we look at projects refused by the council this month.

Pico Wharf, Whitehall Road, Colchester

The applicant sought after installing two kiosks south of Haven Road at the rear of the site known as Pico Wharf.

They wanted to sell cold food as well as cold and hot drinks to takeaway.

However, Colchester Council refused the plans, stating parking issues which would arise as one reason for its decision.

Hythe Quay, Colchester

The applicant applied to change use of retail unit Shop 5 in Colne Reach, Hythe Quay.

They sought after transforming the unit from a shop into a hot fast food takeaway restaurant, with alterations to the building including the installation of an extract flue.

However Colchester Council rejected the plans on the basis the proposed flue would be harmful to the appearance of the building and thus harmful to the character and appearance of the area.

Swallow Field Glamping site, Heath Road, Fordham Heath

The owners of Swallow Field Glamping, in Fordham Heath applied to construct a building on the site.

Colchester Council rejected the plans.

The Willows, Foundry Lane, Copford

Plans to develop four houses for residential use have been thrown out by Colchester Council.

They would have been built in place of a demolish house, workshop and outbuildings.

Bourne Road, Colchester 

The applicant sought after building a two-storey side extension to a property in the New Town and Christ Church ward.

However, Colchester Council rejected the plans.
