Continued high winds have hampered a hotel’s efforts to repair damage caused by last week’s Storm Eunice.

Gusts of nearly 90 miles per hour caused tiles and brickwork to fly off the George Hotel in Colchester High Street on Friday.

A brick also smashed through a skylight into the restaurant.

Nobody was hurt or injured in the incident.

Suki Dulai, CEO, said: “Some of The George’s tiles and bricks fell to the High Street pavement below which resulted in staff immediately contacting police who cordoned off the area in the interests of the safety of our customers, staff and passers-by.

“A chimney brick also smashed through an internal skylight in one of our restaurant areas, [but] we are pleased to report that no-one was hurt.”

He added: “We are working quickly to repair all the damage.”
