A RISING star and charity campaigner says meeting the Mayor of Colchester was an “honour” after impressing as part of a national competition.

Summer Cooke, 12, from Colchester, visited the Town Hall last week with her mum, brother, sister and grandparents.

The second-year student at St Helena School was invited to the historic building by mayor Robert Davidson and mayoress Liz Davidson.

During the visit Summer, the granddaughter of legendary England goalkeeper Peter Shilton OBE, was congratulated on her recent triumphs.

Last month she was crowned Miss Junior Teen Essex and is now a finalist in Miss Junior Teen UK and she is also fundraising for Together For Short Lives.

Summer said: “We had cake and fruit juice and a tour of the Town Hall which was fantastic.

“The mayor asked me lots of questions about the competition and I talked a lot about the charity work I’m really enjoying doing.

“I explained entering the competition teaches you about caring and helping others - he was very kind.”

Football legend Peter Shilton also thanked the mayor and mayoress for arranging the visit.

He added: “It was such a treat, especially for the grandchildren and because of the history - it really was fascinating and we all learnt so much.”
