FIREFIGHTERS are being called out to a "large number" of incidents as strong winds continue to batter Essex.

Crews were called out at 9.30am to a property in Woodgrange Drive, Southend, following concerns tiles were hanging precariously over a footpath.

Crews used the aerial ladder platform to reach the roof and remove the loose tiles.

A spokesman said: "It was made safe by 11am.

"The road was closed whilst the building was made safe."

Firefighters were also in Brentwood High Street at 9.57am to remove a four metre by two metre metal sheet, which was hanging in a precarious position from a three-storey building.
