AREAS of Colchester will remain closed today as the Met Office has issued a red warning for Storm Eunice for the east of England.

The warning, in place between 10am and 3pm, means there is likely to be significant disruption and potential danger to life due to extremely strong winds.

There is the possibility of flying debris resulting in danger to life and damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.

Some roads, bridges and railway lines will be closed, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.

Power cuts could impact other services, such as mobile phone coverage, while large waves and beach material could be thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes.

As a result, there is some disruption to Colchester Council’s services, as well as attractions in the town closing.

Here is all we know:

Garden waste collections have been suspended

The usual collection of garden waste has been suspended today.

Residents are asked to take their garden waste back in and put it back out on their next collection date.

No additional garden waste material will be collected on the next collection.

• Put their rubbish and recycling out for their normal collection by 7am on their collection day.

• Please tie any bags (black or clear) up well and, where possible, only put full bags out for collection. This will help prevent them from moving in the wind.

• If you have something the crews can use to weigh down empty garden sack, please leave this next to your sacks (for example, a brick or large stone). Our crews will try and secure all empty sacks as much as they can.

• Please take any empty containers or sacks back on to your property as soon after collection as you can.
