A PENSIONER who caused a car to brake to avoid a crash when he overtook a lorry has been handed penalty points.
Hugh Lingard, 82, of Shakespeare Road, Colchester, was charged with driving without due care and attention on B1027 Brightlingsea Road on June 25 last year.
The court was told Lingard, who was driving an Audi Q5, overtook a HGV causing the witness travelling towards him to brake to avoid a collision.
The case was heard at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on January 26 and was proved in Lingard’s absence.
He was handed three penalty points and he was fined £107.
Lingard must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £110 costs.
