A SUPPORT group has launched a marathon fundraiser to help a primary school renovate different areas for pupils.

The Elmstead Primary School Association works in tandem with Elmstead Primary School to host events.

From February 1 to February 22, the association, school staff, governors and pupils are taking part in a fundraiser challenge called Twosday.

Pupils have been encouraged to raise £20.22 and others involved have come up with their own challenges.

Angela Odili, 39, recently joined the school as a governor and has decided to give up meat and sweets in return for sponsorship during the challenge.

She said: “Children are our future. By giving something back no matter how small we can enhance their future in a positive way.

“The Elmstead Primary School Association has done so much to support families and staff, they also provide great ways to extend the school network by building links with the community.”

Since last Tuesday, Angela has raised more than £1,000 which was her initial target, adding she is grateful to her friends and family for their overwhelming support.

Dan Baldwin, 33, of Elmstead Market, is the chairman of the school association and says he wants to help the school fulfil its goals.

He said: “We ran our annual Elmfest Festival last September with bands playing, food and drink and other activities, that will go on this year as well.

“We raised £6,000 for that event, which was very inspiring.

“Our annual fireworks event last November also raised more than £6,000 and it’s been going on for the past five years.”

The association also has a clothes bank, works with Amazon Smile for donations and hosts a school lottery.

Ian McDonald, Elmstead Primary School head teacher, said: “We can’t thank EPSA enough for all the money they raise for the school.

“This money has previously gone towards leasing a new trolley of iPads, a revamp of our early years area, new books for our class libraries and taking the whole school to see the panto at the Mercury Theatre - all of which benefit the pupils of Elmstead Primary School.”
