VULNERABLE elderly people are going to be without electricity for six hours tomorrow as power works take place.

Those living in the Whitehall Road area of Colchester will be affected by the maintenance, of which many are residents at retirement village Grange Park Farm.

It means they will be without heating and hot water while the work takes place from 9am to 3pm.

But UK Power Networks, which is undertaking the work, says a vehicle which will provide free hot drinks, charging points, Wi-Fi and face-to-face support will be on site while the power is off.

However, Hythe councillor Lee Scordis says he feels the decision to carry out the maintenance now is “bizarre”.

He said: “It’s an annoying decision as it’s going to be pretty cold. You’re going to have elderly people with no heating, hot drinks or hot water in their homes.

“A resident got in touch with me to say they are really upset and worried about what they are going to do.”

UK Power Networks confirmed 55 people will be affected and said it hopes residents will understand the need for its essential work.
