A NEW convenience store has finally opened in a rural Colchester village after a series of coronavirus-related setbacks.

Nisa Local, formerly a Premier store, has just launched in Colchester Road, West Bergholt.

The shop was scheduled to launch in early last year after new owner Manickam Anbarasan bought the business and partnered with Nisa.

After encountering complications due to the pandemic, however, the project was stalled and transformative work was unable to get underway until September.

The development involved a complete overhaul of the store, including an extension to create more selling space, increasing the store to around 1,500 square-feet.

The interior also now boasts new fixtures and fittings and a wide range of takeaway options, including ice cream, coffee and hot food, are now on offer.

Mr Anbarasan said: “I have been welcoming my new shoppers in and working with them to make sure I am stocking the products they are looking for.

“Trade is picking up and I hope to keep making changes to the range to get it just right and keep building up customers.”

Nisa retail development manager Lee-anne Evans believes the store will be a great asset to the community.

“It’s been amazing and hear the customer feedback which has been so positive,” she said.
