SWINDON Town boss Ben Garner says he hopes referee Christopher Sarginson 'has a good look at the game' after they were held to a draw at nine-man Colchester United.

Garner was frustrated with some of the Staffordshire official's decisions following a 1-1 draw at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The Swindon manager felt his side should have been awarded three penalties in the game and was also unhappy with Junior Tchamadeu's second-half challenge on Josh Davison near the halfway line, which resulted in the U's right-back receiving a caution.

Emyr Huws' stoppage-time strike rescued a point for Colchester, after Harry McKirdy's strike had looked like it had been enough to earn the Robins an away victory.

Garner said: “It was very, very frustrating.

“We don’t defend a set piece at the end 11 v 9 and it cost us points but we should have been out of sight.

“I think the fact that they were down to nine caused a bit of confusion.

“We changed markers and we ended up with an extra zonal player in there and they’ve snuck in and scored.

“That’s on us and it shouldn’t have happened – we didn’t defend the free-kick well enough, we didn’t defend the first corner well enough and we didn’t defend the second corner well enough when they scored.

“But we should never have been in that situation.

Gazette:

“We should have had more goals and throughout the game, we were completely dominant.

"There was a penalty in the second half with Harry McKirdy who gets pulled down.

"I'm not sure why it's not a penalty on Jonny Williams when it's a foul on Jayden Mitchell-Lawson outside the box and it's a red card.

"I don't understand it.

"And their goalkeeper (Ted Collins) has wiped out Josh Davison at the end and he doesn't give that one.

“There were three penalties in the game and we didn’t get any of them.

“That seals the game straight away but we should have put it out of sight before that.

"I hope the referee has a good look at the game.

"I'd like to think we'll get some apologies in the week.

"There was a terrible tackle on the touchline right in front of me, two-footed and he's missed three penalties."

Gazette:

Swindon had bossed the possession at Colchester and had registered five shots on target to their hosts' two.

But they were ultimately made to pay for not adding to McKirdy's strike, especially when their opponents were down to nine men following red cards for both Shamal George and Luke Chambers.

Garner added: "Aside from taking chances, there was nothing wrong.

"It was a really, really good performance until the end and we switched off from a set piece.

"I can't be critical of our group, because they've been brilliant.

"Away from home, they were completely dominant and aside from not taking enough of the chances, they were very, very, very good.

"It was a brilliant performance and we were in complete control.

"We looked really good with the ball, defensively excellent.

"Jo-Jo (Wollacott) had one fantastic save in the first half but other than that, nothing.

"Aside from switching off at one set-piece and not taking enough of our chances, that's it.

"Everything else was positive."
