A PERFORMING arts venue is set to host an informative and educational session for wannabe directors eager to make their mark in the world of theatre.

The Headgate Theatre, in Chapel Street North, Colchester, will host its Directors Workshop event on February 20, starting at 11am.

The aim of the workshop is to address any questions an aspiring director may have, from choosing a play through to the opening night on stage.

It will be facilitated by Andrew Hodgson, a local theatre director with more than 40 years’ experience who has directed more than 100 productions.

Knowledgeable Andrew has worked on everything from Shakespeare to Sondheim, and he is also a longstanding adjudicator for the North Essex Theatre Guild.

A spokesman for the event said: “Many people are keen to direct a play but maybe unsure of where to start and what a director’s job actually entails.

“We are looking for people who are not only new to directing, but those who may want to refresh their skills or relish the opportunity to work with others.

“The aim of the session is to be informative and helpful but also for everyone to have fun and make some theatre together.”
