Colchester Council considers hundreds of planning applications every year.

They range from chopping down trees to building extensions, new houses and changes to shops and businesses.

Here, we look at projects put to the council this week.

Colchester Hospital

COLCHESTER Hospital will have a new compound built for its generator after plans were approved.

East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust applied to Colchester Council to relocate its large generator from its current position to within the new, enclosed compound.

The existing generator room and redundant oil tank will subsequently be removed from the site.

The new compound will see a larger opening build as the current concrete bund is “no longer functional”.

Queens Corner, West Mersea

PLANS for a new pie and mash shop in a former dog groomers have been thrown out.

The proposal sought to convert Mersea Dog Grooming into Mersea Island Pie and Mash, at 5 Queens Corner, West Mersea.

However, Colchester Council’s planning committee refused the plans amid concerns over parking.

The applicant, David Carter planned to have four tables on the shopfloor, as well as a counter area to serve customers. He also planned to provide a delivery service to hungry islanders.

However Colchester Council refused the plans, stating: “The proposal fails to provide any parking, turning, loading or unloading facilities on the site for service and delivery vehicles or customers.”

Le Cateau Road, Colchester

A MONUMENT could be installed to commemorate Colchester’s Royal Artillery Barracks under a new proposal.

If approved, The Sergeant’s Mess, in Le Cateau Road, Colchester, would have the monument and two blue plaques constructed in its premises.

The barracks were formerly known as Le Cateau Barracks, having been renamed after the First World War.

The applicant, Michael Tomkins, says it is a mark of respect to one of the earliest barracks in the Colchester Garrison.
